Abstract
- This article discusses the importance of standards in educational architecture, specifically in the context of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The authors, Julia Hawkinson and Michael Pinto, emphasize the need for standards to provide consistency and equity in learning environments while also allowing for flexibility and adaptation to meet the evolving needs of diverse communities. They highlight case studies at Crenshaw High School, Venice High School, and Playa Vista Elementary School to demonstrate how standards can be leveraged to support innovation and implement district-wide visions. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of pushing the boundaries of standards when necessary and recognizing the value of community voices in shaping standards.
