Abstract
- The Children's Medical Center Corporation has been issued a patent for compositions and methods for treating transposon-associated diseases. Transposable elements, or transposons, are repeat DNA sequences found in mammalian genomes that can move and change locations in the genome. The patent describes the use of antisense oligonucleotides (AONs) to treat diseases and disorders associated with the deleterious effects of transposable element insertion. The invention provides AONs that are complementary to transposable elements present in intronic sequences within genes, and a pharmaceutical composition comprising these AONs. The patent also includes a method for treating genetic disorders associated with transposable element insertion by administering AONs to the subject. [Extracted from the article]
