Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Padova in Italy explores the use of point-of-care testing (POCT) in laboratory medicine. POCT is a method of performing laboratory tests closer to the patient, offering advantages such as accessibility, portability, speed, and convenience. However, there are also limitations and risks associated with POCT, including lower accuracy and reliability compared to traditional laboratory tests, quality control and connectivity issues, and higher costs per individual test. The study concludes that while POCT is an innovative approach, further debate and initiatives are needed to determine its appropriate use in laboratory medicine. [Extracted from the article]
