Abstract

DSV A/S and CVC Capital Partners Plc are the top contenders to acquire DB Schenker, the logistics unit of Deutsche Bahn AG, after AP Moller-Maersk dropped out of the running. Binding bids are expected to be submitted in August. DSV could integrate DB Schenker into its freight forwarding technology system, while CVC has offered to let the German government or a related fund keep a 20% stake in the unit. Saudi shipping company Bahri is also a potential bidder. Non-binding bids have exceeded €15 billion. A deal would help Deutsche Bahn reduce debt and modernize its domestic railroad operations.
