Abstract

Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen creates surreal and sculptural garments that blur the line between fashion and art. Her designs, worn by celebrities like Björk and Beyonce, often draw inspiration from natural phenomena and biological systems. Van Herpen's work is characterized by its malleability and movement, using technological materials and methods to recreate fleeting moments of nature. Her solo exhibition, "Sculpting the Senses," featuring a hundred of her dresses and related objects, has made its way to the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane. Van Herpen's designs, particularly those inspired by water, evoke a sense of enchantment and allure, reminiscent of the novel "The Ice Palace" by Tarjei Vesaas. [Extracted from the article]
