Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Montreal aimed to identify genetic determinants of allopurinol metabolism and concentrations in patients undergoing allopurinol therapy. The study involved 439 participants and investigated four endpoints, including plasma concentrations of oxypurinol (the active metabolite of allopurinol), allopurinol, allopurinol-riboside, and allopurinol daily dosing. However, no associations reached the predefined genome-wide threshold values for any of the endpoints. The researchers concluded that collaborative investigations involving larger and diverse cohorts may be necessary to further identify pharmacogenomic determinants of allopurinol and personalize allopurinol therapy.
