Abstract

A recent study conducted at Naval Medical University in Shanghai, China, aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured dietary intervention in reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus and improving associated metabolic health indicators. The study included 530 participants who were randomly assigned to either an intervention group with a Mediterranean-style diet or a control group with generic dietary guidelines. After 24 months, the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus was significantly lower in the intervention group, and participants in this group also experienced improvements in fasting glucose, lipid profiles, body composition, body weight, blood pressure, and body mass index. The study concluded that dietary intervention can substantially reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus and improve overall metabolic health. [Extracted from the article]
