Abstract

A recent study conducted at Kathmandu University Hospital in Nepal examined the clinical profile and outcomes of endoscopic drainage for pancreatic pseudocysts. Pancreatic pseudocysts are a complication of acute and chronic pancreatitis, and while surgery has traditionally been the preferred treatment, there is a growing shift towards endoscopic treatment due to its effectiveness and minimally invasive nature. The study included 51 patients with an average age of 39 years, and the most common etiology was idiopathic. The researchers found that endoscopic drainage with a plastic stent was a successful method of managing pancreatic pseudocysts, and conservative management should be considered for cysts larger than 6cm.
