Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine examined the outcomes of neonates born to mothers with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). The study found that there was a significant correlation between neonatal thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) and maternal splenectomy history. However, there was no significant correlation between maternal and neonatal platelet counts. The researchers concluded that close monitoring of babies born to mothers with ITP is important due to the lack of reliable predictors for neonatal thrombocytopenia and associated morbidities.
