Abstract

A new report from researchers at the Capital Institute of Pediatrics in Beijing, China, discusses the high-frequency recombination of human adenovirus (HAdV) in children with acute respiratory tract infections (ARIs). The study collected HAdV positive specimens from pediatric patients with ARIs between 2015 and 2021 and used sequence analysis and meta-genomic next-generation sequencing to analyze the HAdV genomic characteristics. The most prevalent types of HAdV were HAdV-B3 and HAdV-B7, followed by HAdV-C1. The study also identified novel recombinant HAdVs, including a novel Adenovirus D called HAdV D115.
