Abstract
- The article explores the use of poetry in preaching within the English Reformed tradition, emphasizing the value of incorporating poetic language into sermons. It discusses how preachers such as Thomas Adams, Richard Baxter, and John Bunyan used poetry to engage their audience and illuminate Scripture. The text also highlights the belief of Puritan ministers that poetry could effectively convey religious truths and inspire spiritual experiences. It concludes by suggesting that preachers today can learn from the English Reformed practice of combining plain speech with poetic language to effectively communicate the message of the Scriptures.
