Abstract

Over-the-counter arthritis supplements that contain undisclosed glucocorticoids can lead to adrenal dysfunction, Cushing syndrome, and adrenal insufficiency. This was discovered in a study of 12 cases presented at the annual meeting of the Endocrine Society. The specific supplements involved were Artri King, Ardosons, and Ajo Rey, which are not sold in the United States but are available in Mexico and online. Patients who abruptly stop taking these supplements can experience symptoms of adrenal insufficiency, which can be life-threatening if not addressed. It is important for healthcare providers to ask patients about their supplement use and examine the products they are taking. [Extracted from the article]
