Abstract
- A recent study conducted by the University of Pittsburgh examined musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) in U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) recruits during their 13-week training program. The study compared MSIs between female and male recruits in both gender-integrated and male-only training units. The results showed that female recruits had a higher incidence of MSIs compared to male recruits, particularly in the hip region. The study suggests that future research should focus on identifying modifiable risk factors to reduce MSIs in all recruits, with a specific emphasis on lower-extremity MSIs in all recruits and hip MSIs in female recruits.
