Abstract

A pilot cohort study conducted at University Hospital Vall d'Hebron in Barcelona, Spain, analyzed patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) to evaluate the prevalence of cardiovascular involvement. The study found that a significant percentage of SSc patients had cardiac involvement, including arterial hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, angina, dyspnea, and a history of cardiac events. The study utilized Nuclear Cardiology techniques, such as gated Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (gSPECT-MPI) and coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA), to assess ventricular synchrony, coronary anatomy, and the presence of myocardial ischemia and coronary artery disease. The researchers concluded that SSc patients may benefit from a comprehensive evaluation using these techniques. [Extracted from the article]
