Abstract

Renewable energy sources account for a significant part of the energy sector, but electricity generation from renewable energy plants is not stable and predictable over time, depending on various factors, such as wind speed or insolation. One method of ensuring stable electricity generation from such plants is to use an additional energy source. In a thermodynamic plant based on the Stirling engine, when the heat from the concentration of solar radiation is not enough, additional heat can be obtained by burning fuel. This paper investigates the temperature control of the Stirling engine boiler by changing the distance to the Fresnel lens, which will allow further calculation of the required power of the additional heat source. The dependence of the temperature of the concentration spot on its area and the distance between the lens and the heating part of the engine at different intensities of solar radiation was determined. The depth of focus of the lens is analysed as the main characteristic for the selection of systems that regulate the distance between the lens and the surface of the Stirling engine boiler.
