Abstract
- A letter published in the Archives of Gynecology & Obstetrics explores the potential association between COVID-19 infection and fetuses with mirror-image dextrocardia. The study conducted an epidemiological investigation to analyze the incidence of mirror-image dextrocardia in pregnant women and fetuses before and after the lifting of COVID-19 control measures in China. The findings suggest that there is a significant increase in the incidence of mirror-image dextrocardia in fetuses after the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, with all pregnant women with this condition having a history of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The study proposes that maternal fever caused by the virus may interfere with the normal development of the embryonic heart. However, further research is needed to understand the specific mechanism.
