Abstract

The article discusses the challenges in diagnosing and treating myocarditis, which is inflammation of the heart muscle. Myocarditis can have various causes and presentations, making it difficult to diagnose and predict outcomes. To address this, the European Society of Cardiology launched a registry to study the performance of diagnostic criteria, the spectrum of causes, and treatment outcomes. The registry found that lymphocytic myocarditis was the most common pathological finding, and viral infections were present in a significant number of cases. The study also identified predictors of adverse outcomes, such as low left ventricular ejection fraction and the initiation of immunosuppressive treatment. The article highlights the need for further research to address gaps in knowledge and improve diagnosis and treatment. [Extracted from the article]
