Abstract
- A recent study conducted by the University of Minnesota provides insights into early childhood research, specifically focusing on mathematics activities in preschool and kindergarten classrooms in the United States. The researchers observed 101 classrooms in seven states and found that mathematics activities comprised 5% of time observed in preschool classrooms and 25% in kindergarten classrooms. The study also revealed that teacher-led activities were more common than child-led activities in both grades. The researchers noted concerns about the lack of mathematics instruction and the over-reliance on teacher-managed instruction in early childhood classrooms, particularly in preschools. The study suggests that recommendations to improve early mathematics activities should consider the characteristics of different program types. [Extracted from the article]
