Abstract

A recent report from the Department of Medicine discusses the importance of accurate staging in bladder cancer (BCa) and explores the potential benefits of incorporating multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) and the Vesical Imaging Reporting Data System (VI-RADS) into BCa staging. The review found that VI-RADS scoring accurately predicted muscle invasion, aiding in distinguishing non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) from muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). VI-RADS potentially identified patients who would benefit from repeat transurethral resection of bladder tumor (re-TURBT) and those for whom it could be safely omitted. However, further research is needed to validate the utility of VI-RADS and refine selection criteria. The integration of VI-RADS into BCa staging holds potential benefits for patients and healthcare systems. [Extracted from the article]
