Abstract

A recent study conducted by Guangzhou Medical University examined the association between the severity of intrahepatic cholestasis during pregnancy (ICP) and adverse outcomes. The researchers collected data from a cohort of 1,289 pregnant individuals and conducted a meta-analysis of prior studies. The results showed that higher levels of bile acids were correlated with preterm birth and preterm premature rupture of membranes. The severity of ICP was also associated with increased risks of stillbirth, admission to the neonatal intensive care unit, and meconium-stained fluid. The study provides new threshold levels for bile acids and highlights the importance of monitoring and managing ICP during pregnancy. [Extracted from the article]
