Abstract

Israel has conducted an airstrike on Beirut, killing a senior Hezbollah commander, in response to an attack in the Golan Heights that resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals. The strike targeted Fuad Shukr, a senior adviser to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Israeli officials have stated that no further hits are planned at this time, indicating a desire to avoid further escalation. Hamas, backed by Iran, later claimed that Israel had assassinated its political leader in Tehran. The targeted nature of the assault on Beirut has eased concerns of a full-blown war, but tensions remain high. [Extracted from the article]
