Abstract
- A recent study from the University of Auckland in New Zealand investigated whether the lens of the eye acts as a source of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to maintain high levels of this antioxidant in the ocular humors. The researchers found that while the lens does release some ascorbic acid into the surrounding media, the amount is not sufficient to sustain the high levels normally present in the humors. However, the lens may help support local ascorbic acid levels close to the lens. This research provides insights into the role of the lens in ocular health. [Extracted from the article]
