Abstract
- This document explores the structure and function of gustatory receptors in insects, with a focus on two receptors involved in sugar perception. Using cryo-electron microscopy, the authors determined the structures of these receptors in both their inactive and sugar-bound states. They discovered that one receptor is specifically activated by fructose, while the other can be activated by multiple sugars, including sucrose. The structures of these receptors also revealed differences in their sugar binding pockets, which may explain their distinct sugar specificity. This research provides valuable insights into how insects perceive sweetness. [Extracted from the article]
