Abstract
- This article discusses the potential benefits of expanding the delivery of oral Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) to community pharmacies in England. The study used the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation, Behaviour (COM-B) model to explore the barriers and facilitators of community pharmacy PrEP delivery for both pharmacists and community members. The research found that while there were some barriers, such as sub-optimal awareness and knowledge of PrEP, lack of staff capacity, and concerns about increased sexually transmitted infections, there were also facilitators, including awareness raising, training and education, and a preference for pharmacy delivery. The study suggests that a behavior change intervention focusing on education, training, and awareness raising, along with system and environmental changes, could help make pharmacy PrEP delivery feasible and acceptable.
