Abstract

A report from Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands discusses the findings of a study on differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) in children with PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome (PHTS). The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of thyroid ultrasound surveillance in detecting thyroid abnormalities in children with PHTS. The results showed that initiating ultrasound surveillance from age 12 led to the detection of DTC in two patients before the age of 18. The study supports the recommendation to start thyroid ultrasound surveillance in children with PHTS from age 12, preferably within an expertise center. [Extracted from the article]
