Abstract

A recent study conducted by the University of Toronto found that 14 and 6 Hz like spike wave activity is a common finding in young patients with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). The researchers reviewed electroencephalograms (EEGs) of children with PWS and healthy controls who underwent diagnostic polysomnograms. They found that the prevalence of the EEG variant was 51% in children with PWS, compared to 0% in healthy children. The study did not find a correlation between the EEG variant and sleep-disordered breathing indices in children with PWS, and the clinical significance of the variant remains unknown.
