Abstract

A report from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia explores the association between evaluating a romantic partner as deviating from relationship ideals and a form of self-regulatory behavior called accommodation in romantic relationships. The researchers conducted two studies, one with 450 individuals and another with 116 couples, and found that when relationship commitment was high, a negative-ideal partner discrepancy was associated with more accommodation. These findings provide new insights into understanding accommodation behavior in romantic relationships. The research has been peer-reviewed and can be accessed through the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. [Extracted from the article]
