Abstract

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 555 has withdrawn its support for the proposed merger between Kroger and Albertsons, citing new information and dissatisfaction with Kroger's behavior during contract negotiations. The union represents 30,000 workers, many of whom are employed at Kroger and Albertsons stores in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Wyoming. The decision comes after workers at Kroger-owned Fred Meyer stores in Portland authorized an unfair labor practices strike. The union has not yet set a date for the strike.
