Abstract

This document is a reply to a study conducted by Gobert et al. regarding changes in the pelagic sargassum ecosystem. The authors of this reply argue that more research is needed to understand the impact of volcanic ash on the elemental composition of sargassum biomass. They suggest that the proximity of the French Caribbean Islands to the ash-affected sargassum may have resulted in different elemental compositions compared to sargassum in Jamaica. They also emphasize the need for interdisciplinary research to better understand the biology and ecology of pelagic sargassum under changing environmental conditions. [Extracted from the article]
