Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom has developed a mechanical testing system to assess the performance of hemodialysis catheters. Hemodialysis is a treatment for decreased kidney function that involves inserting a catheter into the heart's Right Atrium (RA). The researchers used a computer-aided design (CAD) model of a heart to create a platform that accurately replicates atrial hemodynamic conditions. The study found that the developed system was able to evaluate the performance of two catheters, demonstrating its potential to enhance the development of medical devices in the future.
