Abstract
- Greece is currently facing multiple wildfires due to strong winds blowing across the Aegean Sea. Firefighters are working to contain fires on Mount Olympus and near the town of Aspropyrgos, while a wildfire on Mount Paggaio has been burning for five days. The risk of fires is high in Athens, the Attica region, Peloponnese, the island of Evia, and the north Aegean Sea islands of Samothraki and Thasos. These wildfires are part of a larger pattern of extreme weather events caused by climate change, which is also affecting other countries in the Balkans and across the Mediterranean.
