Abstract

A recent study conducted by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University in Australia has found that HIV transcription persists in the brain of individuals with HIV, even when the virus is suppressed with antiretroviral therapy (ART). The researchers analyzed frontal cortex brain tissue from both virally suppressed and non-virally suppressed individuals with HIV and found evidence of ongoing HIV transcription in the brain. This persistence of HIV transcription in the brain may contribute to the development of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders. The study highlights the need for further research to better understand the role of the brain as a reservoir for HIV. [Extracted from the article]
