Abstract
- A study conducted by Rutgers University Robert Wood Johnson Medical School examined the association between ambient heat exposure and emergency department visits and hospitalizations among Medicare beneficiaries in the United States from 2008 to 2019. The study found that older beneficiaries exposed to high temperatures had an increased risk of heat-related emergency department visits and all-cause acute hospitalizations. Younger beneficiaries also showed an increased risk of heat-related emergency department visits. The study suggests that further research is needed to understand the impact of heat duration, intensity, and frequency on specific hospitalization outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
