Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers from Purdue University examined the impact of appointment-based medication synchronization (ABMS) on healthcare utilization outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries. The study found that patients enrolled in a med-sync program had lower outpatient visits and pharmacy utilization compared to those not enrolled in such a program. However, there was no significant difference in inpatient and emergency department visits between the two groups. The researchers suggest that the reduction in pharmacy utilization may be attributed to the elimination of duplicate prescriptions or optimization of therapy during medication reviews. This study provides valuable insights into the potential benefits of ABMS for Medicare beneficiaries. [Extracted from the article]
