Abstract

The Tennant Creek Brio, a cross-cultural artist collective, is gaining recognition for their powerful and provocative artwork that explores personal histories, mining, colonialization, and collective action. The group originated from a men's art therapy group in Tennant Creek and has since grown into one of the most exciting collectives in recent memory. Their work, which incorporates found materials such as oil barrels, poker machines, and geological maps, aims to tell vital stories about themselves, their community, and the larger narratives of displacement and colonization. The Brio's upcoming survey show at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art in Melbourne will showcase a decade of their work presented as an ambitious, industrial-scaled assemblage. Through their art, the Brio hopes to reclaim their culture and inspire other young men in their community to achieve their goals. [Extracted from the article]
