Abstract
- Researchers from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville have focused on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, specifically addressing the issue of aquaculture wastewater management in Nigeria's fisheries industry. The increase in fish farms in Nigeria has led to a rise in aquaculture wastewater, which can have negative effects on the environment, including eutrophication, pollution, and the loss of aquatic resources. Various technologies have been developed to treat aquaculture wastewater, such as constructed wetlands and nanotechnology. The researchers suggest a management plan involving fish farmers, government agencies, and research institutions to treat aquaculture wastewater before it is discharged, ensure compliance with waste management policies, and develop cost-effective local technologies.
