Abstract

Researchers at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have conducted a study on the marginal impact of climate variability on crop yields in Ghana, specifically focusing on maize yields in the Upper East region. The study utilized the random forest machine learning approach, Mann-Kendall test, and Sen's slope to analyze the data. The findings indicate that maximum and minimum temperatures are the most significant climate indicators affecting maize yields, with yields decreasing when temperatures exceed 32°C and increasing when temperatures are around 24°C. These findings are important for addressing the challenges faced by smallholder farmers in sustainable food production and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2, and 13.
