Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, Netherlands, aimed to determine the prevalence of bruxism (repetitive teeth grinding or clenching) in children with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities. The study found that bruxism is highly prevalent in this population, with an overall prevalence of 49%. The disorder with the highest prevalence was Rett syndrome, with a seven-fold increased likelihood of bruxism. The researchers emphasize the importance of clinicians addressing this substantial morbidity in children with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities. [Extracted from the article]
