Abstract

Holy Basil, a Thai restaurant in downtown Los Angeles, aims to be the best Thai takeout spot in the city. The chef, Wedchayan "Deau" Arpapornnopparat, started the business as a bootstrapped operation, doing his own deliveries and cooking the food himself. The menu at Holy Basil does not allow substitutions or changes to preserve the integrity of the dishes. Arpapornnopparat incorporates various influences into his cuisine, including Thai, Indian, Chinese, and Mexican flavors, resulting in genre-bending dishes.
