Abstract
- This article from Guitar Techniques explores the guitar style of Joan Baez, a prominent figure in America's folk and protest song movement in the 1960s and beyond. Born in New York in 1941, Baez developed an interest in music at a young age and began playing the ukulele before transitioning to the guitar. Her early guitar style consisted of fingerpicked chords with melodic elements, but as she worked with other musicians, her arrangements became more sophisticated, incorporating jazzy chord voicings and Spanish influences. The article suggests that Baez's guitar style offers a unique and challenging approach for acoustic guitar players interested in the 1960s folk sound. [Extracted from the article]
