Abstract

A recent study conducted at the Maxima Medical Centre in the Netherlands explored the neuropathic character of anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome (ACNES), a potential cause of chronic abdominal pain. The researchers used a test called the scratch collapse test (SCT) to evaluate patients with suspected ACNES and two control groups. The SCT was positive in 19 out of 20 ACNES patients and not in any of the control group participants, indicating a 95% sensitivity and 100% specificity. The study suggests that a positive SCT should be considered a major diagnostic criterion for ACNES, supporting the hypothesis that it is an entrapment neuropathy. [Extracted from the article]
