Abstract

A recent report from the University of Port Harcourt highlights a case of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in a 20-year-old female who initially presented with bilateral optic disc edema and headaches. The aim of the report is to raise awareness of uncommon causes of disc edema that could potentially be life-threatening. The patient's initial diagnosis was idiopathic intracranial hypertension, but further examination revealed dilated tortuous vessels with discrete retinal lesions, leading to a diagnosis of CML. The report emphasizes the importance of considering CML as a potential cause when managing patients with unexplained bilateral disc swelling. [Extracted from the article]
