Abstract

Originally developed in religious studies, the theory of sacrificial listening (SL) has application to pedagogy. In this conceptual piece, we consider the virtues demonstrated through SL, how SL requires the listener to reconsider misunderstandings and adjust personal interpretations, and look at the ways relationship building is centered when SL underlies teacher decision-making. When forefronted in practices like the use of primary sources, morning meeting, and student-led discussions, SL has the potential to transform pedagogical practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
