Abstract

This article explores the metaphysics of nonreductive physicalism and its connection to F.H. Bradley's critique of relations. Nonreductive physicalism argues that while the physical domain is fundamental, there are higher-level items, like mental properties, that are distinct from the physical but dependent on it. Bradley's critique challenges the idea of relations as external entities, suggesting that they cannot be explained without an infinite regress of relating relations. The article discusses how this critique challenges the concept of supervenience, a key component of nonreductive physicalism, and suggests the need for a more intimate inter-level relation between the physical and the mental. The text also discusses the significance of relations in metaphysics, particularly in the context of nonreductive physicalism. [Extracted from the article]
