Abstract

A study conducted at University Hospital in Ulm, Germany, focused on the placement of tunnelled haemodialysis catheters (tHDCs) as an alternative vascular access option for haemodialysis patients. The research highlights the importance of nephrologists being involved in the planning, creation, and monitoring of vascular access, especially when timely access to vascular surgery is not possible. The study also discusses strategies to mitigate the risk of infectious complications and catheter thrombosis, as well as new developments in catheter placement techniques. The research offers an approach for choosing the insertion method based on available resources and emphasizes the need for interventional nephrology training programs. [Extracted from the article]
