Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Toho University Ohashi Medical Center in Tokyo, Japan, examined the long-term effects of glucocorticoid therapy on bone health in patients with myasthenia gravis (MG). The study included 28 MG patients and found that those who experienced major osteoporotic fractures had lower baseline bone mineral density (BMD) and higher FRAX(R) scores for fracture risk compared to the no-fracture group. The study highlights the importance of regular bone health assessments in MG patients, particularly those receiving long-term glucocorticoid therapy. The findings suggest that the FRAX(R) tool may be useful for stratifying fracture risk in this population and improving long-term management strategies. [Extracted from the article]
