Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, explored the language and cognitive processes of Pitjantjatjara-English bilinguals when making comparisons of magnitude. Pitjantjatjara, an indigenous language of Australia, uses contextually driven comparators rather than dedicated comparative constructions. The study found that participants were less accurate when making comparisons of extent using Pitjantjatjara, suggesting that linguistic comparison strategies may influence comparison behavior. The research provides insights into the relationship between language and cognition in bilingual individuals. [Extracted from the article]
