Abstract

A recent study conducted at Henan University of Technology in China explored the effects of epicatechin (EC) and beta-glucan (BG) from whole-grain highland barley on glucose metabolism in diabetic mice. The researchers found that EC and BG directly bind to insulin and mTOR receptors, respectively, and activate specific pathways involved in glucose uptake and glycogen synthesis in liver cells. When EC and BG were combined, they had a synergistic effect in improving hepatic glucose metabolism and reducing blood glucose levels. This research provides new insights into potential treatments for hyperglycemia. [Extracted from the article]
