Abstract
- A new report from researchers at the Aravind Eye Hospital and Postgraduate Institute of Ophthalmology in Tamil Nadu, India, explores the effectiveness of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) in treating acute acquired comitant esotropia (AACE) in children and young adolescents. The study found that BTX-A therapy showed efficacy in treating esotropia, with over half of the patients achieving optimal outcomes and improvements in stereopsis and sensory fusion. Early intervention within three months of symptom onset was found to significantly correlate with treatment success. The study highlights the importance of patient-specific considerations and close follow-up to monitor residual and recurrence of esotropia, with surgical intervention potentially increasing the final success rate.
