Abstract
- Researchers from the SWOG Cancer Research Network have developed a risk prediction model to identify advanced cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials who are at the highest risk for unplanned emergency room visits and hospital stays. By identifying these high-risk patients, interventions can be targeted to reduce the need for such visits, improving care quality and reducing costs. The model incorporates factors such as performance status, comorbidities, and cancer type to determine the risk of acute care use. This research aims to improve the inclusion of patients with comorbid conditions in clinical trials and anticipate the higher risk of acute care use. [Extracted from the article]
